Chairman’s Message on World Humanitarian Day: Strengthening Solidarity and Empowering Communities
On August 19th of each year, we renew our observance of World Humanitarian Day. It is not merely a fleeting commemoration, but a moment to pause and reflect on the essence of this noble work, which embodies the values of generosity, responsibility, and human solidarity.
Under this year’s theme, “Strengthening Global Solidarity and Empowering Local Communities,” we believe that humanitarian work goes beyond emergency aid. It is a long-term commitment to upholding human dignity, investing in people’s potential, and building a more stable future.
In Somalia, our beloved country, where humanitarian challenges persist, we deeply understand what unmet basic needs mean. Yet, we also witness the immense hope and determination within our communities. Since its founding, Zamzam Foundation has worked hand-in-hand with the Somali people to be a true partner in change and empowerment—not just a service provider.
We have always believed that sustainable solutions come from within, from the community itself. When people are given the opportunity to express their needs and participate in shaping their future, they can achieve real change. That’s why we place community empowerment at the heart of all our programs—from health and education to economic empowerment, protection of vulnerable groups, and promotion of social peace.
Global solidarity is both a human value and an urgent necessity in a world where crises are intertwined and the destinies of nations intersect. From the heart of Somalia, we send our message to our international and regional partners: supporting local communities means not only reaching them, but listening to them, respecting their uniqueness, and working with them as partners—not merely as recipients.
On this occasion, we also remember our colleagues who lost their lives while fulfilling their duties in the field. We ask for mercy and forgiveness for them. We extend our deepest respect and appreciation to all humanitarian workers—in the field and in offices—from Somalia and around the world. To them we say: thank you is not enough. You are the heartbeat and soul of this work. Through your efforts and sacrifices, we make a difference every day.
This occasion cannot pass without remembering the suffering of our brothers and sisters in Gaza and Sudan, and the humanitarian tragedies they face that demand genuine global solidarity—while the world stands by watching.
In conclusion, we renew our commitment to our people, our partners, and all who place humanity at the center of their concern. We pledge to continue Zamzam’s mission with steadfastness and responsibility, always remaining close to the people—working for them and with them—with sincerity, respect, and transparency.
