Zakat is a solution to all the problems of the world
Zakat is an original obligation and one of the five pillars of Islam, and it is obligatory for every sane, capable, responsible Muslim. So how much is the zakat of money?
The nisab for zakat on known money is 2.5% of the total property and wealth if a year has passed.
Zakat, in its concept, is a socio-economic harmony for the benefit of society, as it can change the lives of billions of people, for billions, not millions. Why? Because the simplest material calculation tells us that if all Muslims gave out 2.5% of their wealth, enough money would be available to solve all the crises of humanity, if we assume that it will be spent on the benefit of the beneficiaries, the poor and the needy.
What is the nisab for zakat money?
The nisab is the minimum if the whole year has passed and it has not decreased, and zakat is due on it. This value was estimated in terms of gold and silver in the hadiths of the Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, equivalent to 612.36 grams of silver or 87.48 grams of gold.
Who benefits from zakat?
The holy verse mentioned several basic groups that benefit from zakat. God Almighty said:
This means that zakat is given to the following groups:
- The poor and needy.
- Those working to manage zakat funds and deliver them to the needy.
- New Muslims to compose their hearts and stabilize them.
- The prisoners and the debtors.
- For God’s sake.
- The wayfarer and those who are today considered refugees, the displaced, and the poor without shelter or housing.
- Relatives of the poor and needy.
You will be making a difference in people’s lives by providing financial assistance
Last year, Islamic Relief field teams witnessed the impact of zakat in more than 40 countries around the world, and how your zakat turned into a well with solar energy technology that changed the farms of poor families in Mali from a lifeless desert to green gardens from which the local community eats and whose products children, women and men live on. And she saw how zakat money contributed to restoring the sight of thousands of patients with cataracts (water on the eye) in Sudan, Niger, Kenya and Bangladesh, as they not only saw the light for the first time, but also became a source of decent income for their families if they helped their children learn and achieve their dreams. Our teams also witnessed how your zakat saved the children of Yemen from starvation, and saved the children of Palestine during the Corona epidemic when it provided them with treatment, health tools and sterilization materials, and embraced the pain of refugee children from Myanmar and Syria, and supported the dreams of Bosnian youth.
Our relief teams, and the poor and needy, have realized the impact of zakat, how to save people, renew hope, and completely change their lives.
“خُذْ مِنْ أَمْوَالِهِمْ صَدَقَةً تُطَهِّرُهُمْ وَتُزَكِّيهِمْ بِهَا وَصَلِّ عَلَيْهِمْ إِنَّ صَلاتَكَ سَكَنٌ لَهُمْ وَاللَّهُ سَمِيعٌ عَلِيمٌ” – سورة التوبة (103).
