Zamzam Foundation Launches Nature-Based Solutions Training to Strengthen Climate Resilience in Somalia

Zamzam Foundation has launched a three-day Nature-based Solutions (NbS) training workshop in Mogadishu, starting 27 January 2026, with the support of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and in partnership with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MoECC) Somalia.

The workshop was officially opened by Drs. Wafa Hassan, Director of Planning at MoECC, who highlighted the Government of Somalia’s commitment to advancing Nature-based Solutions as a central component of national climate action and sustainable development efforts.

This training is designed to strengthen institutional capacity, enhance climate resilience, and support the integration of nature-based solutions into national policies and climate management planning. By promoting ecosystem-based approaches, the initiative seeks to address climate risks while protecting natural resources, supporting livelihoods, and empowering local communities.

Through embedding Nature-based Solutions within Somalia’s climate and development frameworks, the workshop contributes to long-term, sustainable responses to the increasing impacts of climate change, including environmental degradation, water scarcity, and ecosystem loss.

Zamzam Foundation calls on all stakeholders—government institutions, civil society, development partners, and practitioners—to actively engage in the training and champion Nature-based Solutions in both policy and practice, helping to build a more resilient, inclusive, and sustainable future for Somalia.
