Handover Event for Water Purification and Desalination Plant and Solar-Powered Artesian Well for the Kidney Center at Banadir Hospital in Mogadishu
In a significant step towards enhancing water infrastructure in Somalia, a handover event was held yesterday for a water purification and desalination plant, along with an integrated solar-powered artesian well dedicated to the kidney center at Banadir Hospital in Mogadishu. Both projects were funded by the King Salman Center for Relief and Humanitarian Aid, reflecting a strong commitment from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to support local communities in Somalia and improve their living conditions.
The station and the well were officially handed over to the IRVD organization, the operational partner of the King Salman Center for Relief and Humanitarian Aid, following their implementation by the Zamzam Foundation. These facilities will be utilized to benefit the kidney dialysis center at Banadir Hospital.
The event was attended by His Excellency Ahmed bin Mohammed Al-Mawlid, the Saudi Ambassador to Somalia, and Abdullah Al-Moallem, Director of the Health and Environmental Aid Department at the King Salman Center. Key government officials included Minister of Health Dr. Ali Haji Adam, Minister of State for Energy and Water Resources Mohamed Abdullahi Farah, and Chairman of the National Disaster Management Authority Mahmoud Maalim Abdullah. From the Zamzam Foundation, Executive Director Omar Jama Adam and Assistant Director Mohamed Mukhtar were also present.
The solar-powered artesian well provides a sustainable water source, while the use of solar energy helps reduce operational costs, enhancing the project’s long-term viability. The advanced water desalination and purification plant will significantly improve the quality of water available to patients and staff at the Kidney Center.
The benefits of the project extend beyond water provision; they also encompass social and economic aspects, leading to increased productivity and improved quality of life. The project will create new job opportunities during the operation and maintenance phases, contributing to local development.
This initiative is part of Zamzam’s ongoing efforts, in collaboration with its partners, to support local communities in Somalia. The funding and logistical support from the Kingdom through the King Salman Center exemplify the spirit of cooperation and solidarity, emphasizing the importance of teamwork in addressing humanitarian challenges.
Zamzam Foundation expresses its deep gratitude to the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center for their invaluable support to the Somali people. We look forward to continuing our work on initiatives and development projects that improve the lives of the population, striving to build a better future for all Somalis.
