ZAMZAM ICVA MEMBERSHIP ANNOUNCEMENT AT WORLD HUMANITARIAN DAY EVENT
Today, Zamzam Foundation organized an event at its headquarters to mark the International World Humanitarian Day 2023. The Executive Director, Omar Jama, spoke about the importance of global solidarity for addressing humanitarian issues. He also made an important announcement regarding the foundation’s recent membership in the International Council of Voluntary Agencies (ICVA), a Geneva-based,global network of non-governmental organizations dedicated to collective action towards principled humanitarian work, action and advocacy. He shared his aspirations that joining the ICVA will strengthen Zamzam’s ability to serve the interests of Somali peopleby forgingstrategic alliances and partnerships, expanding its internationalnetwork, and coordinating and contributing to international advocacy operations. |
Zamzam Foundation is the first Somali national organization to obtain this membership. It is the largest national humanitarian organization, and one of the oldest non-governmental organizations whichcombats poverty through the development of sustainable livelihoods for vulnerable households and addresses the effects of severe climate change and recurrent conflict through concerted programming.
The International Council of Voluntary Agencies (ICVA) was established in 1965 and includes more than 100 institutions working in humanitarian affairs worldwide. It is concerned with advocacy operations for humanitarian issues, links international humanitarian institutions, acts as a forum for sharing and exchanging experiences and information among its members, and provides a platform for cooperation on important global issues.
